Hotlap, in BeamNG

Drive one perfect lap. Then beat it.

BeamLap is a hotlapping system for BeamNG.drive. It adds the time-trial mode a racing simulator would have — courses, splits, personal bests, a driving line — and a leaderboard the whole world drives on.

The HUD while you drive: running time, split against your best, and the gate ahead.

All of it works offline

Nothing is behind an account. Install the mod, pick a course and drive: the timing, the records and the telemetry are yours on your own machine.

  • Courses — every quick race and time trial layout the map ships with, forward or reverse.
  • Lap times with gate splits, so you know which corner cost you the lap.
  • Personal bests kept per course and per car, because a lap time means nothing without the car.
  • Your driving line and inputs recorded at about 10 Hz for every lap.

Records and standings are kept per course and per car.

What going online adds

Switch BeamLap to Online and every finished lap goes up as you drive.

Leaderboard

Put your name on a leaderboard the whole world drives on.

Standings come in several shapes — by course, by car, by driver.

Driving analysis

A driving analysis system at a professional level.

Compare your lap against the fastest in the world, corner by corner, and find where the time went.

Course sharing

Even a map with no time attack data of its own downloads its courses.

Build a course, set a record on it, and everyone else can drive it at once.

One person builds it. Everybody drives it.

The Course Record Analysis page: two laps on the same course, the trace coloured by understeer and oversteer, speed and delta under it.

The analysis is the point

A lap time tells you who was faster. The trace tells you why. BeamLap keeps the whole lap — position, heading, steering, throttle, brake — and draws it back:

  • Speed, throttle, brake, steering and the time delta against the lap you are comparing.
  • The driving line coloured by balance: red where the car understeers, blue to green where it slides.
  • Corner-by-corner apex speed and minimum speed, next to the other lap's.
  • Measured power from a full-throttle straight — in PS, next to what the car claims.
The records page: every valid lap with car weight, measured power, tyres, distance and average speed.

Open source, and it stays that way

Everything at the heart of BeamLap is open source, out in the open. Install it without worry: you can read what the mod records and what it sends.

How to go online

A BeamNG mod cannot reach the outside on its own, so a small Windows program carries the connection: BeamLap Relay. Run it, set BeamLap to Online, and your laps go up by themselves. Laps you drove offline are sent the moment you connect.
